I will start with the things that I know are a fact.
Born around 1877 according to the 1910 and 1920 census
Married Anderson Prater in 1902ish according to 1910 census
1910 census
Dotson branch, precinct 8, floyd county, ky
Anderson age 50 marriage #2
Mary age 33 marriage #1 (3 children all living)
Cidney age 32 (Mary's step daughter)
John age 21 (Mary's step son)
Bettie age 6
Milton age 4
Calley age 6 months(my great grandfather)
March 22 1911 Elbert Prater born
April 22 1913
Mary marries Josh Poe
Anderson prater died in a mining accident sometime between 1910 census and 1913 I have no been able to find death certificate for him.
1920 census
Josh poe age 67
Mary age 43
That's the end of the paper trail I can find. I do know that the mary that married josh poe is her, because it was also wrote in my grandmas bible.
Notice 1920 census clara poe her daughter does not live with her, nor any of her other children!
I have found all her children living in different households. Calley and Elbert living with Anderson's sister, and all the other children are scattered living in seperate households.
Now the real mystery begins, I have her parents as noah wright and julia stanley
I had someone message me saying that mary had 2 children unwed father unknown before she married Anderson, her parents ended up raising them, their names were Edith and Brady wright. Her grandmother was Edith , and never spoke of her mother, just that she remembered her leaving when she was young(apparently to marry Anderson) never saw her again...
So is it the same mary wright??? Sure does have a pattern of leaving her children. My great grandpa cal told my grandma that he had Cherokee in him(which doesn't mean much) but I found some info on the children of noah wright and julia stanley, one was listed as Cherokee on a webpage. I have also seen some pictures of that family, and they resemble my grandmas family.which again doesn't mean much..
I have yet to find a death certificate for mary wright prater poe..nor could I find anything else on clara.
Maybe someone can help.
